Electric Vehicles News is the first automobile newspaper in mainland Europe exclusively dedicated to the electric vehicle market. The reason behind this was the idea that electric cars do not get their charge from a battery, but rather from an onboard charging unit. This was a novel idea at the time and received a lot of attention and criticism both for and against the cause. One major critique of the Electric Vehicles News theme was that it was too contrarian in its outlook and advocated the removal of all gasoline powered vehicles from the road. However, this is a view that I agree with to some extent. There are compelling reasons why electric vehicles should be legal.

The most important reason for me as a consumer of electric vehicles is the savings to be gained by not using gasoline. For starters I will no longer have to buy gas or any form of lube oil. If I fill up at a station in Los Angeles, California the total cost of using that fueling source adds up to about $3.00 per gallon. If I were to use the electric motor and its batteries to power the vehicle all by itself then I would only need to spend about half that amount. This is significant savings for the typical family that would otherwise be required to pay for the use of gasoline and its related services such as fueling and maintenance.

In terms of savings from other sources I can think of some that are easy to quantify. For example the price per gallon of fuel that we are currently paying for petrol has gone up about 50% over the past 10 years. This means that the money that we spent in increasing fuel costs can be put to better use doing things that benefit the earth. By installing electric vehicles in our community we will help reduce the amount of greenhouse gasses being emitted into the atmosphere.

Another great benefit from owning an EV is the reduced impact on the environment. A very interesting study from the National Academies of Sciences and Engineering reported that a fully operating electric vehicle will produce fewer greenhouse gases than a standard gasoline powered vehicle. In fact the authors of this study went as far as to say that owning an EV could be the best thing that ever happened to the environment!

An interesting statistic from EV News is that a Europes largest car maker is Jaguar. The manufacturer of the F12 sports car has invested a lot of money into researching alternative fuel sources such as biodiesel and hydrogen. The company has also set up a company called Future Energy for the purpose of developing an EV for the mass market. This company plans to produce the first ever completely electric sports car that is capable of running on both fuel types, kwh and kw. If you take a look at the EV news you will see that the company is aiming to build about twenty new electric cars a year.

Teslaras new zero-emission electric vehicle, the Viability X, will be on display at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. It is expected to be available to the public in the future. A few years ago it was estimated that the cost of building a totally electric car would be ten thousand Euros. If the researchers and developers are able to reduce the weight of the vehicle by fifty percent while maintaining all of its electric power, then the price will fall to a couple of hundred Euros.
